Essay for Historical Speech
Self Evaluation

After presenting your speech, write a self reflection essay which explains the following prompts. Make sure you describe and explain thoroughly! This reflection should be at least a half page in length, double spaced typed with 12 point Times New Roman font using the preset margins and no extra lines. Type a half page as your minimum without short cuts!!!!

Self Evaluations are due the day following the day of your presentation.


Prompts to answer:



Paragraph 1:
  • Now that you’ve had your first official speaking experience, what areas do you think you need to improve upon by the end of the course?
  • How did you feel the first time you spoke for your impromptu speech as compared to this speech?

Paragraph 2
  • Why did you choose this speech and this speaker?
  • How did studying the history of the speech help you in your performance?
  • How did you practice your speech? Explain everything you did in your preparation from the time you got your speech until its presentation.

Paragraph 3
  • What improvements did you notice with your presentation compared to the practice with your peers the last few days of class?
  • What problem areas do you think you had in your presentation?
  • Which problems do you think are in need of the most attention? (Which ones do you want to correct first?) Why?
  • Read through your peers’ comments. Reflect on two of the most important comments that you received.
